Glenn Liburd at Work in His Brooklyn Studio

EXCLUSIVELY AT BROOKLYN TAILORS - the opportunity to have a completely custom pair of jeans built from the ground up, by master craftsman Glenn Liburd, here in New York City, from our own house-made American selvedge denim fabric.

Since 2007, Brooklyn Tailors has built a reputation as one of the best custom tailors in the United States, merging our modern, contemporary American design with the old-world craftsmanship of Europe's best tailors and textile weavers. Our custom tailoring program is built on the fundamental belief that to create a truly world-class product, you must work with the best people and the best raw materials. In the world of tailored clothing, those people are found in Europe. In Italy, where we source most of our tailoring and shirting fabrics, and in Portugal, where our tailors are located, hand-crafted tailoring is embedded in the DNA.

But when we set out to add the newest category to our custom program: custom-made denim, we knew that our home soil was where we would find the best of the best to work with. There's nothing more American than a pair of blue jeans, after all.

We've partnered with Glenn Liburd, longtime friend of Brooklyn Tailors founders Daniel and Brenna Lewis, and 30-year veteran of the denim industry and craft, to offer custom-made jeans of the very highest caliber and pedigree.

Glenn fell in love with denim as a teenager, growing up in Trinidad. After training as a custom tailor for many years, he shifted his focus to the more rugged world of denim and workwear, and hasn't looked back. For the past 30 years, Glenn has designed and crafted denim products quietly behind the scenes for some of the biggest names in the industry. Most recently, he was the lead tailor for Levi's exclusive Lot 1 Program, measuring, cutting, and sewing their bespoke Levi's 501s for an elite clientele of denim aficionados.

After decades creating behind the scenes, Glenn has launched his own collection of ready-to-wear and custom denim products in partnership with us at Brooklyn Tailors.

And while you can purchase his designs on a ready-to-wear basis from us and at other top retailers, the opportunity to work directly with Glenn himself to build a completely custom pair of Glenn's jeans offers you the chance to have a truly unique, one-of-a-kind piece exactly the way you want it. Each custom Glenn's piece is made by Glenn himself, out of his Brooklyn studio.

THE PROCESS: The process begins with a discussion of what you're looking for. While you are always welcome to pop in to our store at any time to discuss the process, we recommend scheduling an appointment to meet with one of our custom specialists. Before proceeding with a fitting, we'll walk you through the options, answer any questions you have, and gain a better understanding of what you hope to get out of the custom process, that you were not able to find shopping for jeans off the rack.

At the first fitting, we'll take your body measurements, and will also have you try on some Glenn's ready-to-wear jeans, to compare various fits, discuss what changes you would like to make, and narrow down what you're looking for. Once we establish the basic silhouette, style, and detailing, Glenn will be ready to draft your initial custom paper pattern back at his studio.

Additionally, at the first fitting, we'll review our collection of denim fabrics, and decide on the right one for you. We'll also discuss your preferred care and treatment of your jeans. Do you like to leave them completely raw? Do you hand wash them? Do you prefer to wash and dry them for a more distressed look? All of this affects not only the fit, but the overall drape and look of the final product.

A couple of weeks after the first fitting, you'll come back in for a second visit, at which point Glenn will have prepared a "toile," which is a sort of rough draft of your jean. You'll try that on, and we will review what further adjustments might be necessary to the pattern.

After this mid-point fitting, Glenn will be ready to craft your final custom jean.

When the jean is completed, you'll come in for a final review, trying the jean on to make sure everything is just as desired.

Once you take home your first pair of custom Glenn's jeans, we'll keep your pattern on file, allowing for quick and easy re-orders in the future.

Please allow approximately 8 weeks for your first order, and approximately 6 weeks for re-orders.
