MEASUREMENT GUIDE - CUSTOM

When taking your measurements, you should be wearing light clothing that doesn't add too much bulk (a t-shirt and some lightweight pants for example). Remove any items from your pockets and remove your belt. For most of these measurements and photos, it is far easier and more accurate to have somebody help you, rather than take them yourself. When having your measurements taken and when being photographed, try to stand as relaxed and comfortably as possible - as you normally would. Avoid stiffening up or posing - we want to see your normal posture. The measuring tape should be wrapped securely around the area you are measuring, without any excess slack. But, it should not be tight - don't pull it to create any tension.

UPPER BODY

BICEP & ARMHOLE (for jackets and shirts)
  • BICEP: Raise your arm to the side, and have your helper wrap the take measure around your upper arm where it seems to be largest. Lower your arm to a relaxed position at your side. No flexing!
  • ARMHOLE: Raise your arm again, and have your helper wrap the tape under your arm and over the top of your shoulder, where the armhole of the jacket or shirt would sit.

NECK & NECK BASE (for jackets and shirts)
  • NECK: Wrap the tape around your neck, where your shirt's collar would sit.
  • NECK BASE: Same idea, but a bit lower. Measure around the base of the neck where it becomes your shoulder.

CHEST & STOMACH (for jackets and shirts)
  • CHEST: Raise your arms and have your helper wrap the tape around your chest, right under your underarm, where your chest is the widest. Make sure the tape is not sagging or slack at the back.
  • STOMACH: Same idea, but a bit lower. Measure around the stomach. This is roughly just below the rib cage and a few inches above the waist.

SLEEVE LENGTH (for jackets and shirts)
  • We'd like to know the sleeve length in terms of where you'd like your shirt sleeve to end on your wrist (for jackets, we'll work backwards from there). Have your helper place one end of the tape at the center of the back of your neck and hold it there. Run the tape along the top of your shoulder line, then down your arm with your arm relaxed at your side. Measure to the point on your wrist where you'd like the shirt sleeve to end (we recommend that the shirt sleeve ends just at the end of the wrist, touching the top of the hand but not falling on to the hand.
  • Repeat for the other arm. Many people have different sleeve lengths!

LOWER BODY

WAIST (for pants)
  • Start by identifying the height at which you'd like to wear your pants. We usually cut our pants with a mid-rise, which is above the hips but below the 'natural waist'. Wrap the tape around your waist at this point. If your pants are in the way, lower them a little so your'e just measuring right up against your body. If the pants you're wearing are tight around the waist, you may want to unfasten them for a second, so they aren't cinching your stomach and changing the measurement.

HIPS (for jackets, shirts and pants) & THIGH (for pants)
  • Wrap the tape around your hips at the widest point.
  • Hike your pants up as high as they'll go (sorry if its a bit uncomfortable). Move your feet apart a bit, and have your helper wrap the tape around the very top of your leg for the thigh measurement.

POSTURE & BUILD

YOUR POSTURE (for all garments)
  • Achieving a good fit is not just about a garment's measurements - its also about the proportions. Many people don't realize that one's posture & stance will greatly affect how well a garment sits on them. One of the most important aspects of the bespoke process is our ability to look at how you stand, and if needed, make proportional adjustments to your custom garment, to allow it to hang better on your particular body. Since we can't meet with you in-person - we'll request that you take a few photos to show us how you stand. Its VERY IMPORTANT not to pose or stiffen up. Shake it out, and try to stand how you normally would - relaxed, with your arms at your side.
  • For the photos, avoid wearing any baggy or bulky clothing that prevents us from seeing your build and posture. Have your helper take photos is good lighting, at eye level, so that everything is clear.
  • We're looking for full body photos from the front, side and back.

HEIGHT & WEIGHT (for all garments)
  • Not much explaining needed here. Just let us know your approximate height and weight.
